Town's reserves were in action last night in the totesport.com League and in the end were 5-0 winners over Sheffield United.
It was a good performance from a strong Town side and a win which puts the side top of the table.
Simmo was impressed with his side's performance and another good result:" It was a very good result and an excellent performance from the players.
"I'm delighted with the way that they've gone about things in the reserves this season though I'm a little bit frustrated that we don't transfer sort of reserve team form into the first team.
"There was a lot of good stuff last night and it shows that they have done things right over the season as we are top of the league in the reserves.
"It was good for all the lads to get a game, the first team lads needed the games and got a good strong 90 minutes.
"I thought Harry Hooman the young trainee was excellent in defence and did really well."
The side which Town put out was another strong one with a number of first team players getting the 90-minutes under their belts.Simmo believes that a strong reserve side picking up results can have a positive knock on affect for the whole club:" It was a very strong side we put out and it has been for most of the season and I would like to think it will be for the remainder of the season.
"I think it gives a good mentality through the club to do well in the reserves, the year I was promoted with Carlisle United the reserves won the league as well.
"It has a knock on affect and I hope that if we all carry on working as hard as we are doing then it will have an effect for the whole of the club."
There were two trialists in the side with French midfielder Yacine Si Salem and ex Watford forward Moses Ashikodi. The two had decent games and Simmo will be keeping an eye on both players: "I think they both did well over the game and it was good to take a look at them in action.
"The midfielder Yacine showed really good technical ability but I'm not sure if he was strong enough physically to be able to deal with English football.
"I spoke to him after the game and he will train with us for a few days but I'm not sure if he will improve our squad.
"I thought that Moses did very well and I'm going to speak to him today with a view to get something sorted until the end of the season.
"He showed some good touches and good awareness and had some decent pace around his game.
"He's really down on his match fitness but that is something we can work on and get improved if we get something sorted."
Ashikodi has played for the likes of Millwall, West Ham, Rangers and Watford so has a decent pedigree. He's been training with Town recently and Simmo is hoping that he can tie up a deal that will keep Moses at the Prostar: "He knows the English game well and has played for some very good football clubs in his time.
"He's been a bit unfortunate with injuries; he went to Bradford on loan and broke his leg.He recovered from that and then went out on loan again but had to return due to problem caused by the screws that had been in his leg.
"He's really keen to get himself sorted out and to knuckle down and show people that he deserves a contract.
"If we can agree something until the end of the season then it gives us the chance to look at each another."
There was a new face on the Town bench with Graham Coughlan stepping in for John McMahon.Macca was watching the Macclesfield game and with Coughlan doing his A badge it was the perfect opportunity to get some experience:"Graham Coughlan and Mike Jackson are both doing their UEFA A coaching badges and spoke to them when they came into the club and said if they wanted to get involved with the reserves then to come down.
"With us having a couple of trialist playing I wanted to be at the game so John McMahon went to watch Macclesfield to get them covered before we go there on Saturday.
"We asked Graham if he wanted to stand in there and you could hear his dulcet tones vibrating around the ground, so he does have the voice for it and I think he did enjoy it.
"I did have to say to him that it won't always go that swimmingly with 5-0 results but it was a good start for him."
