Moses Ashikodi

Posted on: Sat 28 Feb 2009

Moses Ashikodi is Shrewsbury Towns latest signing and ShrewsWeb popped over and had a quick word with him.

Welcome to Shrewsbury, what brings you here?

Just football, I just want to get my head down and start showing people what I can obviously do. To help the club and also help my future.

You have had a little look at us, what do you think we are all about?

I was actually here last week and trained, I was then waiting for the reserve game to come and I played the game.I have seen myself turn out for the Gaffer once and he said to me before the game what he wanted me to do. Obviously it's a good team that needs something and hopefully I can do.

Were you pleased with your two goals for the reserves?

I always love to score, and to score a goal in your first game for a club will hopefully set the way that I continue. Two goals help you a bit and I got more confident after the first one.

Are you confident of getting into the first team?

Definitely, the aim is obviously to get into the team and stay in the team. We are looking to stay in the play-offs so we can get promoted, at the end of the day. I am here to do a job, and I will do it to the best of my abilities.

Would you agree with the Gaffer, that pace and strength are your main assets?

I think that pace is my main strong point, obviously I can score goals as well, but I use my pace a lot. It's an advantage I have got over the defenders, so yes he is right in saying that.

You have signed to the end of the season, would you like to be here for the longer term?

Yes, definitely. There are 14 games to go, so there are a lot of games to play and a lot of points still to be earned, so it is a long way to go for the teams at the top. One or two will drop points, so if we win all our games, we might have the chance to go up automatically.

You have played for some good clubs but have had bad luck with injuries; do you think you are over them now?

I think that the injuries are what killed it all for me, after I broke my leg, it all went pear shaped. Hopefully now, I can be bigger than that, and start again and there is no better place in this league than Shrewsbury, so I am just really happy to be here, I am lucky to be at a club on a contract and I would love to stay. I have to work for the club first of all, and hopefully the Gaffer will give me a contact for next season.
