Darren Moss

Posted on: Thu 21 May 2009

Darren Moss has been one of Town's most consistent players since regaining the right-back slot after Christmas. His experience has helped add to an already experienced back-four and this has helped the squad as a whole.

ShrewsWeb caught up with Mossy in a break from training to see how the preparations were going: "After everything that happened at Bury we've had a good weeks training and are looking sharp.

"We travel down there on Thursday to the hotel and also get the chance to see Wembley Stadium.

"I'm really looking forward to that as I haven't been there before and it will be nice to see it on Friday before the game on Saturday."

Mossy was part of the Town squad which gained promotion via the play-offs back into the league. His penalty against Barnet was the one which sealed Towns place in the final but he had already picked up a yellow card which meant that he would miss the final: "It was a big disappointment for me at the time after scoring the winning goal but then not being able to take part in the final.Luckily the lads got the job done on the day and we went back into the football league.

"This time round I feel that I've played my part in helping us get to the final and I just can't wait for the game.

"The lads can't wait for the game to come round and then we will hopefully get the result that everyone wants."

The importance of playing in a final at Wembley is a huge one for a footballer and players can go through the whole of their careers without getting the chance: "It's what everyone wants to do and when you are school you always dream of playing at Wembley.

"Hopefully I will get the chance on Saturday to play and to do everyone proud as I know all my family will be there."

Town have shown in recent games the strength the squad has to get results and that was highlighted in the win away to Bury:"We were all disappointed after the first leg but we knew that we could go to bury and get the right result.

"The lads have been full of confidence and we went there and got the job done with a few heroics from the keeper.

"We were confident when it went to penalties and you could see that with the way the lads put the penalties away.

"I was down to take the fifth penalty and am always confident of scoring from the spot but Luke did the job on the day and did me a favour.

"It was a great result and we've now got our chance to put things right and to get in to league 1."

The final is a massive game to finish the season and one which Mossy believes will be a good one for Town: "You are looking at playing in front on 50-60,000 people and a lot of lads won't have played in an occasion like that.

"In simple terms it is just another game and we know that we will need to be at our best to get the result that we want.

"People say that it is the best way to go up from a division so hopefully come Saturday we can get the achievement that this club deserves."

Town's form is good going into Saturday's game and Mossy puts this down in part to the settled squad. The training has been sharp and lively all week and he believes this will give the gaffer a few interesting decisions when it comes time to name the squad: "I feel that I have had a good run of games after the disappointment of not playing before Christmas.

"Hopefully I can keep that going on Saturday and play my part in helping the team to victory.

"In the last 7 or 8 games it's been nearly the same team each week and the same squad.

"That has been good and I do think that you need a settled squad to help the result.

"It's been shown as we've had good results away from home and we will take that into Saturday's game and get another important win.

"The squad is giving the gaffer a bit of a selection headache with the way we've been training this week and the quality that we've shown.

"The starting eleven on Saturday and the subs will all have to play their part and the lads who are on the bench are more than capable of being in the starting eleven."

Saturday's opponents are Gillingham and when the two teams last met the game ended in a 2-2 draw at Priestfield's.It's a game that Mossy believes Town should have won and he's hoping that Saturday's game ends with the right result this time: "We went there and they scored a worldy of a goal which put a downer on the game and then we came out second half and gifted them a goal.

"We showed great character to get it back to 2-2 but I felt that we were more than capable of winning the game.

"I think they will be scared of us and scared of the likes of Holty and Ben Davies and what they are capable of.

"We need to take the game to them and if we do I'm confident that we will get that important win."
