Martin Wild gauges post-match reaction after today's game
Neil Ashton:
I think this is worse than last time because we have been positive right through with the team we've got. But I think it's the manner of defeat as well. To concede in the last minute is absolutely heartbreaking. The ball was in that slot really between my head and the post and I just couldn't get there. The lads were adamant that it wasn't even a corner and the guy from SKY just came into the dressing room and confirmed it. You have to accept the referee's decision but if he calls it right, Luke gets a goal-kick and we're up the other end of the field and maybe on the attack so it's a bitter pill to swallow. After the goal it was a hundred miles an hour from there and we just didn't have the time to break through. Credit to them - I thought first half they were absolutely fantastic and dominated the game. We're so disappointed that on such a stage we haven't been able to perform to the levels we are capable of.
Luke Daniels:
It's been a horrible day the way things have turned out. It was a good game to play in but obviously it's not the result we all wanted. It's devastating to concede from a corner in the last minute. It all happened so quickly and it's just one of those things that happen from time to time. We should have defended it better but that's football and you just have to get on with it.
Graham Coughlan:
I'm absolutely devastated but I'm not sure what I'm more upset about. The way we defended the goal was shocking. I think I'd rather they'd have tore us apart but they didn't. The referee made a mistake but you can't blame him too much. It was probably easier for him to give a corner in the last minute so he didn't have to run 60 yards back up the field. But I thought we were poor today to be honest. I think we have much better players and are a much better team than we have shown today. Maybe the occasion has got to a few of the lads today. Nerves, call it whatever you will but we're better than that.
I was confident all week. Even at half-time I was still confident. I could see myself going up those steps to lift that cup but it wasn't to be and I don't think you ever get over defeats like this.
Kelvin Langmead:
It's not nice to lose any game, but when you lose a game of this importance in the 89th minute, it's even harder to take. We just didn't have any time to get back in the game. We didn't create enough and we didn't pass the ball as well as we can so it's just an awful and devastating way to end the day. We know that our performances over the last two months of the season have been really good and when you come to Wembley, you want to show those watching back home how you can play, and we haven't done that. They're a good team and they made it difficult for us by limiting our chances. I had this feeling two years ago and getting the opportunity to come back and make things right, crucifies you when it happens again. We have to take the positives. Hopefully it will make me a better player. I was extremely proud to walk out here in front of all those fans with the rest of the lads. It's an extremely proud and emotional moment to stand out there and sing the National Anthem. Everyone knows my heart lies with Shrewsbury, but those things are out of my hands now and we'll have to wait until Monday to see what happens.
