ShrewsWeb broke the news this morning that Jake Robinson had become Paul Simpson's second signing of the closed season.
22 year old Robinson was at the Prostar stadium this morning to finalise the paper work on a 2 year deal and to take his medical before signing.
After all the paperwork was completed Jake spoke to the press and revealed that he could have joined Town last January: "In the January window I was called by Paul Simpson who said he was looking to take me on loan as I would possibly work well up front with Grant Holt.
"Unfortunately that didn't work out as there was something that couldn't be agreed which was a shame as I really fancied the idea of a move and everything seemed to be sorted at my end.
"I then went out on loan to Aldershot and enjoyed that but at the end of the season my contract was up at Brighton and that allowed the move to be talked about again."
Paul Simpson kept an eye on Jake's situation and when he was released by Brighton got in touch to discuss a permanent move. This was one of the things which swung the deal for Jake: "It's nice to be wanted and because he called me first and told me how much he admired me as a player and the plans that he had was a big help.
"It's a big decision to move up here but things like that really helped me to make the decision."
He is looking forward to the pre-season and to getting down to work with his new striker Grant Holt.Jake is hoping that the two of them can work well together and bring different things to the Town front line: "It think the two of us playing together could be a really good partnership.
"A player like me likes to play with someone who has a bit more size who can take the knocks and the physical side of thing.
"We will have to see how things go over the pre-season to see how we link up and see what the manager has planned."
"I'm a bit of an opposite to Grant Holt really, but hopefully not in the goal scoring department.
"I'm a small, quick player who likes to look to get in behind defenders and feed off of a players flick on's and stretch the defence.
"I've not got the size or physical presence to be a target man but I can do the other stuff that a good partnership needs."
Town have shown under Paul Simpson that they like to get the ball down and to try and play football when they can.Jake has seen some of the games and believes that this will be good for his style of play: "I played up here in the Johnstones Paint Trophy so got a good look at Shrewsbury first hand.
"They played some really good stuff that night and I've seen a couple of games on the tele so have an idea of the style.
"There seems to be a lot of football being played and the manager has told me that he likes his side to play things with the ball on the deck which will suit me."
Jake grew up in Brighton, has progressed through the youth ranks and played all his football at Brighton bar two loan moves to Aldershot. He now makes his first move away from the south coast to move up to Shrewsbury and it's something he is looking forward to: "It's a big step in as such that I have to move away from my friends and family and move up to Shropshire.
"Saying that I am really excited by the move and it's a challenge that I'm looking forward to and I think in the long run that it will help me grow as a footballer and as a person."
The chance of a two year deal at Shrewsbury brings some security and was another factor in Jake's choice of joining Town: "There were a few other clubs interested in taking me but the fact that Shrewsbury were already there with the offer was a big factor.
"I've been told that there will be a lot of players who won't get contracts at clubs and that was another factor in the decision.
"If someone is offering a two year deal like Shrewsbury have done to me then you have to jump at it."
