It's been a busy few days for Town manager Paul Simpson as he looks to build his squad for next seasons Coca Cola League 2 campaign.
There was good news at the end of last week with a number of the players putting pen to paper on new contract with the clubs.
We caught up with Simmo this morning and started with an update on the contract situation:"I'm really pleased that we have got new contracts agreed for Kelvin Langmead, Steve Leslie and Omer Riza and that they are staying with the club.
"Unfortunately Darren Moss decided that the contract we had offered wasn't acceptable and he moves on now.I've read that he has signed a two year contract at Morecambe and I wish him well as he is a good fellow.
"We are still waiting for Chris Humphrey to see what he will do; he is perfectly within his rights to look at other options. My view on it is that if nothing has happened so far then the chances are it isn't going to happen elsewhere and he will choose to stay with us, so we will wait and see on that one.
"With Ben Davies I think we have to accept that Ben Davies is going to be moving on from us.He's had over 4 weeks now to decide whether he wanted to stay with us, he said to me that he hasn't had much chance to think about it and he wants to see what other options are available out there and speak to a couple of League 1 clubs.
"I've told Ben that I'm now planning without him and that I don't expect him to be coming back to us, but we will have to see what happens over the next few days."
With the contact situation nearly cleared up this has allowed Simmo to look to bring in players to replace the ones who have gone.He added defender Dean Holden to replace Darren Moss and is now looking at other options for the squad: "I had a meeting yesterday with a winger to come in and to replace Ben Davies and I thought it went very well.
"The player was impressed with everything that we showed him and all that we talked about.
"I'm just waiting for a decision back from him; he also has other clubs who are interested in League 1 and in Scotland.
"He has options but I am hopeful that I will get a decision off him in the next 24 hours."
Simmo has also been looking at his backroom staff since the departure of John McMahon to Liverpool. He's already added Dave Timmins as full-time goalkeeping coach and will give Mike Jackson and Graham Coughlan involvement in the coaching side of the squad. He has also now added another ex Town favourite Mickey Brown as part time fitness coach:"We've now agreed for Mickey Brown to join us on a part time basis as a fitness coach.
"I think it's important to get people in who have a bit of knowledge of the club and with Mickey still being local that fits the bill.
"Since he stopped playing Mickey has developed his career as a fitness trainer and he is really keen to get involved with and to get working with the players.
"He will be working to improve the players' fitness and to develop their strength, fitness and speed.
"It is another addition to the backroom staff that I am hoping will help us to move forward."
