Nathan Elder

Posted on: Tue 04 Aug 2009

ShrewsWeb announced this morning that Nathan Elder had completed his medicals and would be joining Town on a 3 year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Nathan was at the Prostar Stadium again this morning but this time it was as a Shrewsbury Town player.

ShrewsWeb caught up with him between training to see how the last few days whirlwind had been: "It all started on Friday then Saturday and Sunday and yesterday I had my medical.

"It was a bit of a prolonged medical but it all went ok in the end and today I put pen to paper on the contract."

The timing of the move means that Nathan has a full week of training ahead of the Burton game but also gave him the chance to be on today's squad photo: "I would have preferred to come in now than later as it gives me the chance to get to meet the guys and train with them.

"It gives us that little time to work on the pitch to understand how we all work and to get going.

"I think it was important for me to make the team photo today as you know everyone looks at that and the new faces in the squad."

The move brings to an end a couple of successful years at Brentford and he leaves the club with fond memories:"I had a great time over there and it was great to be part of a team that won promotion.

"I had my ups and downs with my injury and a few card against me but all in the all the memories from there are brilliant."

Last season saw Nathan miss the end of the Bee's campaign after picking up a nasty facial injury in Brentford's trip to Rochdale. The injury has healed now and Nathan just wants to move on from that and concentrate on playing football: "It kept me out for a good few months and I had to have an operation on the side of my face to mend the fracture and the broken eye socket.

"I'm trying to let that go now and it's time to move on and the main thing is that I'm here now and want to be playing which is the best thing."

Having tasted promotion at Brentford the Essex born striker wants to achieve that again and believes Town are well placed to do that: "Playing with Brentford and winning promotion has given me that hunger to do it again and I will personally be disappointed if we don't get promoted this season.

"When you see how strong the side is and see the facilities that we have here I don't see any reason why we can't go up."

Joining a new club or going into a new job can always be a bit daunting but the Town squad have made Nathan really welcome from the off. He's fitted in straight away and had some kind words for his new teammates: "They are a brilliant set of lads and from the minute they have made me feel really welcome.

"It's always tough going to a new team and it is really like your first day of school as you meet loads of new people.

"I've had a great reception off all the staff and players since I got here so it's a great time to be here."

The focus is now on the hard work ahead and for the season kick-off against Burton on Saturday.Although he hasn't taken part in town's pre-season he is raring to go after a tough program with Brentford: "I played a few pre-season games at Brentford and got a couple of 90-minutes under my belt.

"I'm thankful for that because if I had come here without those games I'd be that step behind.

"The things I need to catch up on now are things like set plays, see how other people work with the ball and try to link up with them and things like that.

"My aim now it to show the gaffer and the staff what I'm about and get into the team."
