Town's reserves took on Walsall last night at the Prostar Stadium with a very young looking team which was bolstered by two trialists.Nathan Hodge is a young striker who plays for Ludlow Town and Grant Kerr is a midfielder who has been in America.
In the end it was Walsall who took the 3 points but Town's young side put in a good performance which they should take a lot from.
ShrewsWeb spoke to Paul Simpson this morning to get his reaction on the game: "It was a good game and a really good test for our young side against a strong Walsall team.
"In the first half Walsall were murdering us a bit but as the game went on I think we got to grips with the game much better.
"After the second goal Walsall got back on top but I think the youngsters will learn a lot from the game."
Nathan Hodge is a young striker from Craven Arms who has been knocking the goals in for Ludlow Town in the West Midlands Premier League. He's come to the attention of the Town manager who brought him in to take a better look: "Nathan is someone we have heard about and have got in to have a look at.
"We spoke to Ludlow to see if it was ok for him to come down and have a run out so we could take a look and they were happy with that.
"He impressed last night with his performance and I've spoken to Ludlow to see if they are happy for Nathan to come in and train with us for a couple of days and play in another reserves game and they are ok with that.
"We will now need to speak to Nathan and see if he would be up for that and how it fits into his work.
"He's an 18 year old and it is a little concern that he lives in Craven Arms and hasn't been spotted by the club until now."
The other trialist Grant Kerr didn't fare as well as Nathan and was replaced at half-time by Tom Dix.Kerr was a player who got in touch with the club but Simmo revealed that he wouldn't be taking the interest any further: "He is a player who has sent over DVDs of himself playing, he had a good looking CV and had the chance to play for LA Galaxy.
"He wanted to come back to the UK though and has been training up in Scotland and wanted the chance to show what he could do.
"In the end he wasn't really what we were looking for and won't be taking it any further."
