STFC is delighted to announce the appointment of former Town star, David Hughes, as Head of Youth Development and former Headmaster, Martin James, as Community Development Manager. Both posts are part of the clubs ambitious plans to build on, and enhance, the good work of the Centre of Excellence and Community Sports Trust.
David starred for Shrewsbury Town before his transfer to Cardiff City. Sadly his playing career came to a premature end at the age of 24. He commenced coaching with the Cardiff City Academy and at the same time attended Cardiff University where he gained a 1st Class Honours degree in Sports Science and Psychology. David holds a UEFA 'A' coaching licence.
The objective of the appointments is to ensure that the football club is an open and inviting environment where players from within Shropshire, and surrounding counties, can achieve their dream of becoming a professional footballer with Shrewsbury Town. Links with schools and clubs will be extended to spread the net as wide as possible to attract our future footballers.
To assist the club in achieving their goal, Martin James, in his role of Community Development Manager, will work with the Football in the Community project run from the club, building on the work of Brian Williams and Lee Pugh with schools. He will also be developing mutually beneficial partnerships with stakeholders within the local and broader community to establish the club as the focal point for community activities.
Shrewsbury Town Football Club will be the Centre of Excellence for youth football and the hub of community life.
