The loan window shut yesterday with Andre Gray being the only movement in or out of the club.

Andre had joined AFC Telford on a month's loan which will see him go straight into the Bucks squad for their game at the weekend.

It's a move that Simmo believes will benefit Andre and help his development: "Telford enquired about taking Andre a week or two ago but at the time I didn't think it was right for us to let him go.

"Now with players coming back to fitness it meant that Andre was only on the bench in the reserves and that's not good for the development of a young pro.

"He's gone out and will get a month of football but will also train with us and do his strength and conditioning work.

"It's a good standard of football and hopefully it will help him come back to us a better player."

There were no new faces coming into the Town squad despite Simmo and his staff trying to bolster the squad. They have been out looking at players to help improve the squad but in the end there was no joy on that front. Simmo had been trying to bring in players like Carlisle United's Peter Murphy but in the end that didn't happen as Carlisle were unable to bring in the player they wanted: "We've been making enquiries and speaking to people for a few weeks ahead of Thursdays loan window but unfortunately it didn't happen.

"I felt we needed to strengthen ourselves in the defence and there were a number of players we've spoken about and hoped to have one come in.

"I was expecting a player to come in yesterday afternoon, his club were trying to bring in another defender in which would allow him to go out but at 3.30pm I got a call to say they had been let down so they couldn't let him come to us.

"That's life though and we move on, I would have liked to have some extra players in to strengthen us defensively over the Christmas period but we will have to go with what we've got. "

With the window now closed that means Town won't be able to bring in any new additions until January. Simmo is happy with the quality that his squad possesses and hopes that with the players coming back to fitness they can stay injury free and push for places: "We are starting to get everyone fit now and have come through what has probably the worst injury periods that I've had in my time in management. A times we've had 10 players missing and when we made the decision at the start of the season to go with a smaller squad and go for more quality I felt we would have enough if we kept the majority of people fit and then supplement it with the odd loan.

"If we look at the players we brought in over the summer Chris Neal has been available for about 6 games, Lewis Neal for maybe 4 games, Craig Disley for a handful and they would have been three big players for us this season.

"As we get people fit, strong and pushing for places we will have good competition and will have good performances which in turn will mean good results.

"The youngsters are starting to improve as footballers and understand what we are looking for and we have players like Will Richards who has been involved on the bench a number of times as have Danny Taylor and Jon Taylor."
