Shrewsbury Town have today strengthened their squad with the addition of attacking midfielder Benjamin Van Den Broek.
Van Den Broek has been training with Town over the last couple of weeks, he agreed to join Town and signed all the paperwork earlier this week. It's taken until late Friday afternoon for all of that paperwork and international clearances to be completed but finally the boxes have been ticked and Benjamin is now a Shrewsbury Town player.
Its good news for manager Paul Simpson who is delighted to have such an exciting player to join his squad: "I'm delighted that we have been able to get Benjamin Van Den Broek to come over from Holland and agree to join our club.
"He is a 22 year old attacking right sided midfield player, he's not an out and out winger but he plays that roll well, he can also play centrally and had been known to play of the left as well.
"I think it's fair to say that his favoured roll is the Dutch number 10 position which is just in behind the strikers.
"He is an attack minded player, is a good size, young and in a way we've taken a little bit of a punt on him.
"He had other good offers to go to clubs in Europe, better offers , but he has a dream to play in England and people have said good things about our club and myself and we are pleased he has agreed to join."
The move came about after a recommendation to an agent and Benjamin came over to play in the reserves last game.In the end this never happened but he showed enough in training for Simmo to offer him the chance to playing in English football: "His agent contacted me and he knows another agent who we have dealt with before and the recommendation was Shrewsbury Town is a good place to be.
"He came over to play in the last reserve game but we found out at the last minute that his clearance wasn't through so he couldn't play.
"He stayed and trained with us, he looked good and got stronger with each session he played.
"We've made him an offer to stay to the end of the season so he can look at us and we can take a longer look at him.
"I'm looking forward to getting him in, getting him used to English football and for him to show us what a good footballer he can be."
The plan now is for Benjamin to get back into training with his new team mates in preparation of a run out for the reserves next week at Burton Albion: "The challenge for Benjamin is for him to come in and show us what he can do and force his way into our first team.
"We will look at how he goes in the next reserves game and take a good look at him in action.
"He's played at a good level and hopefully that will be enough and he will be able to cope and adapt to our league.
"His first run out will be in the reserves at Burton Albion next week and hopefully he will show everyone what he can do once that he's settled in."
Benjamin Van Den Broek will have squad number 17.
