After Towns important win at home to Bournemouth, ShrewsWeb spoke to Jamie Cureton about his home debut...
After a match where you did everything but score, you must feel a little frustrated.
A little bit yeah, but I felt good, I felt sharp and I think I have made an improvement on the Rotherham game. I'm getting my match sharpness together, the goals I am confident will come. I have had chances, I am one of them that if I get chances, I am happy. I am confident I will score more than I miss so, on that side it's a little frustrating because I would like to score on my home debut.
It is one of those games, but I felt I played a major part in the game and contributed to helping us win. That's the important thing, that we put 3 points on the board and keep in touch with everyone at the top. It's not a personal thing for me to come here and get as many goals as I can, it's about helping Shrewsbury, and along the way my goals will come and hopefully that will coincide with some wins. I am pleased, that's two 90 minutes now, and I think I will get better and stronger as the games come.
You were pivotal in the only goal of the game, with you taking the ball into the box, enabling Terry Dunfield to score.
Yes, I managed to get in the box, do a couple of twists and turns, got a shot off which got blocked and fell to Terry and he's tucked it into the corner of the net. I am happy with that - I played a good part in the goal so I played a good part in the game. It was pleasing, we were playing a team that are in the top 3, and we comfortably beat them. The first half was a bit 50/50, but in the second half we dominated.
Since I have been here, we have played 3 teams in the top five, then its Grimsby and Rochdale. I knew as soon as I came here we had a lot of the top boys, but from seeing it I don't think we have anything to fear. We've been comfortable, we should have beaten Rotherham I think, as on the night we were the better team. I think Bury on the night were the better team but the Rotherham game and today, I think we have been comfortably better, and I think we can take confidence from that. Looking at it, I am more than confident that we can do well.
From the looks of things you have settled in well, you were enjoying the result afterwards with the rest of the team, do you think there is a team spirit here that can take us forward?
Yes, there is a very good team spirit, the boys have been great since I have come in, bearing in mind I didn't know any of them apart from coming across a few in games. It's a really good bunch, a good group, team spirit is really good and it shows out there. We really enjoy our football and everyone is pulling in the right direction, and that includes the ones that don't get picked. I think if you have got that, and the quality, you've got a chance of getting out of the division.
It's your home debut, what are your reflections on how it went?
The set up is top notch, it's a better set up than the division it's in, obviously we've got to get them out of it. The fans were great as well, they get crowds better than a lot of teams in League 1, so it's all set up and geared towards getting up. Now it's down to the boys on the pitch to make that happen. We will give it our all and I am confident that come the end of the season we can get up, one way or the other.
