Dave Button has impressed during his loan period with Town but as he was under 21 years of age he was at the club on a youth loan. Dave turned 21years of age at the weekend and this meant that the loan had to be turned into an emergency loan.

This had all been agreed in principle with Dave and Tottenham Hotspur but the paperwork couldn't be finalised until today. This has now taken place and Dave will be at the club for the next 93 days.
ShrewsWeb spoke to Dave this morning before training and the young keeper was pleased that the loan had been finalised: "I'm delighted to have signed the new loan and hopefully with the way things are going we can continue to push on and get some more good results.

"It's the longest run of games I've ever played in my life and I feel that in each game I am growing.

"All the defence have been brilliant and we are looking solid and with the competition for places in the squad keeps everyone on their toes."

Strikers are judges on their goals and keepers and defences are judged on clean sheets and the goals they concede. Since Boxing Day Town have only conceded the odd goal in the game and have notched up four clean sheets: "There have been a number of clean sheets during my time here and that gives you a real boost as a keeper.

"I think the games have gone well over the last 6 games and we have only conceded three goals and two of those were penalties.

"As a defensive unit we have been doing really well and that can only hold the team in good stead.

"I know Nealo (Chris Neal) is breathing down my neck and I've got to make sure I do well in training and games because if I do slip up then I know he'll take my place."

When Dave joined Town the club was in and around the play-off positions but as the games have been racked up that position has been cemented. There are tough games coming up week in week out but the squad is still aiming to end the season with promotion: "We have always been in and around it since I came but our position is beginning to become more solid.

"We have some more hard games coming up after going through another hard run, we have Grimsby away and then Rochdale, Notts County and Aldershot.

"The key is to take each game as it comes, not look too far ahead and to make sure that we are focused on each game.

"Promotion would be fantastic and is the ultimate aim and dream so hopefully that can be realised."

The news that Dave Button will be staying until the end of the season is great news for Town manager Paul Simpson. The stability of having the same keeper since the start of December has helped to keep Town pushing for the top 3. Simmo has been pleased with what he's seen from Dave and believes there is more to come: "I've managed to get Tottenham to extend the loan until the end of the season which is great news.

"We always knew the youth loan finished on his 21st birthday so the paperwork is now completed.

"Hopefully he will now keep playing to the levels that he has shown so far during his time with us.

"He is a good goalkeeper but inexperience and the only way that he is going to improve is by playing games.

"He knows that he's got to keep on his game as he's got Chris Neal and Andreas who are pushing him all the way and wanting to take his place."

Town picked up another important 3 points at the weekend but there were a couple of injuries scares in the game. While we had the chance we asked Simmo for a quick update on the bumps and bruises from the game: "We've got a couple of little niggles from the weekend, Graham Coughlan took a whack late on and Dave Hibbert had a worry over his arm but they should both be fine.

"There was talk of a possible fracture in Hibbo's arm but his is fine, just a little bruised and sore.

"Apart from that it's just knocks and bruises and everyone is training today and should be fine for the weekend."
