After Benjamin Van Den Broek made his home debut for Town in the 1-0 defeat against Rochdale, the Dutchman spoke to Adam Calverley.
How much did you enjoy your home debut?
I have been really looking forward to this for a few weeks now and it was great, apart from the result of course. I was just happy to play.
So, how frustrating was the game?
Rochdale were a good side but it was 0-0 after 45 minutes. We had to try and get a draw or a win in the second half. It is always dangerous, especially when we let in a soft goal. The red card made it even more frustrating for us. Overall it was very disappointing.
In the first half, you had a good attempt on goal with your left foot. Were you desperate to get on the score-sheet?
I really wanted to show the fans what I could do. In the first ten minutes it was so hard for me because the tempo was high and I had to get used to the style of football. I was defending more than I was attacking and that was my first chance to go and make something of it.
How did the style of football differ from in Holland?
It was faster. In Holland we want to play football from the back, but here there was a lot of long ball and that meant you always had to win the second ball. I liked it though and I want to play more football. You have to get over the difference in style and I managed to get a few good runs in the second half.
So, will it take you time to adapt to League Two football?
Not really. It seems fast now but I think I will get used to it quickly.
Are you looking forward to playing in a tough match at Aldershot next week then?
I am here to play football and I just want to play every game. We were unlucky today but I hope our luck changes next week.
Do you feel settled in Shrewsbury now?
Definitely. I am in a house with David Button and Joe Skarz and it is good to go in to town and get some dinner with each other. Everybody has been really welcoming at the club which has made me settle down. I really like it here.
After dropping out of the play-offs with defeat against Rochdale, how do you rate our chances of gaining automatic promotion now?
It is still in our hands. Anything is still possible and we just need a few good wins to make it, but it will be hard now.
