David Raven

Posted on: Mon 23 Aug 2010

ShrewsWeb grabbed a quick word with defender David Raven about the weekend, the stoke game and how he is settling in now he has a few games under his belt.

A quick look back to the weekend...
I think they started the better side in the first half. They had the 3 men in midfield that we couldn't quite get to grips with for whatever reason. Then I think we were sloppy to give the goal away too, especially after we had just scored. In the second half, I thought we were the better side, we kept the ball better and it could have gone either way I suppose, but I suppose it was a fair result.

And the tactical change at half time helped change things...
He was disappointed in the way we couldn't impose ourselves onto them in our formation. So he was disappointed with that but when he did change it, it worked.

And the positive to take is that we are still unbeaten?
That's it, two wins and one draw is good form, so if we can keep that going it will be a good season.

And we have the trip to Premiership Stoke...
Yes, that's a good one for the lads to enjoy, there is no pressure as far as the result is concerned, they are expected to win. A lot of the time, that works in our favour. The lads are relaxed, can go and play and hopefully we can play well and get the result that we want.

Against Charlton, we proved that we can play against the better sides...
Yes, we definitely can, we have got some good players here, so if we turn up with a little bit of luck we should get the result we want.

Stoke can be an imposing force with some very big, strong Premiership players, so this is likely to be a bit of a test?
Yes, maybe but we don't get too wrapped up in their team, it's just something that the lads are looking forward to. Their main strength is that they are all big lads and you find that the higher up you go, they are bigger lads. So we are expecting that it is going to be a very hard game, but as I say, it's on that we are all looking forward to.

Has this competition been good to you in the past?
Yes, it's been alright to me. I've been knocked out in the first round but I have also played in the later rounds too. But I would love a cup run, it would be really good.

How have you settled in to Shrewsbury since you arrived?
Yes, it's been o.k.; I am really enjoying my football. I had a long layoff last year and it's just great to be playing football again, so I am really enjoying it. The manager and coaches want us to get it down and pass it. It mixes in with the type of players we have got here, we have got lads who are ball players, and it's enjoyable to play in.

But the team is not afraid to mix it if needs be..
Yes, you need an ugly side to your game, as long as we have got that, as that is vital as well. So long as we have got that, we should be o.k.
