Town were knocked out of the Shropshire Senior Cup after a side made up of a majority of youth team players was beaten 2-1 by The New Saints at The Venue.
Only Connor Goldson had any first team experience in the Town line-up this evening, while first year professional Luke Male also made an appearance in a team that was managed by Dave Hughes.
The hosts meanwhile featured some players with Welsh Premier League experience and it was the Oswestry based side who started the brighter, with their first sight of goal coming in the sixth minute when Chris Sharp could only divert Chris Williams' deep cross wide of the far post.
Town's youngsters were giving their hosts a good test and themselves came close in the 20th minute when midfielder Elliot Turner got in a strong tackle before advancing with the ball before firing in a powerful twenty yard shot that was well saved by Alex Ramsay in the TNS goal.
The home side took the lead in the 37th minute as Chris Sharp carried the ball down the left hand side before putting a searching ball across the six yard box and Williams was there at the back post to fire the ball past the helpless Callum Burton in the Town goal.
Town did not let their heads go down and they were back level within two minutes when a Ryan Woods corner was headed towards goal by Connor Goldson, his effort headed onto the bar by a TNS defender, but Kane Cork was there to prod the ball over the line as the linesman flagged to confirm the ball had crossed the line before being hacked away.
The second half was a quieter affair edged slightly by the more experienced home side, although the Town young guns did their best to match them and both teams created a few half chances although neither team could take that chance to book their place in the final.
With penalties looming, The New Saints scored the decisive goal after some neat link up play by Alex Darlington and Aeron Edwards who then set the ball to Charlie Proctor who spun before firing a low shot past Burton into the bottom left hand corner from all of twenty yards in the 82nd minute.
Town rallied and looked to draw level again but their final ball wasn't quite up to scratch and it was TNS who would be appearing in the Shropshire Senior Cup Final despite an impressive effort by the youngsters.
