Scott Shearer has signed on a three month loan deal which will see him move from Bristol Rovers to Shrewsbury Town.

Glasgow born Scott started his career in Scotland with Albion before a move south to join up with Coventry City. He made over 40 appearances for the Sky Blues before a move to loan move to Rushden & Diamonds and then onto Bristol Rovers.

Shearer signed this morning and was then up to Sundorne to join up with his new team mates. ShrewsWeb grabbed a quick word with him after training: "I played the last three games for Bristol Rovers but then I was informed that was being taken out of the team again.

"I'd had a good pre-season there but then the club brought in another keeper and I was forced onto the bench.

"You're never happy being on the bench but I thought my luck had changed playing the last three games but I was dropped again.

"Luckily for me Shrewsbury came in and offered me the chance to come on loan and play if I do well.

"It's a good chance for me to come and stake a claim for the jersey."

With Ryan Esson still out until at least Christmas following a broken cheekbone Chris Mackenzie was Town's only fit keeper after Chris Neal returned to Preston North End. The addition of Shearer gives Town another option in goal and competition for the goalkeeper's jersey: "I want to come here and play, I don't really want to sit on the bench.

"I'm going to come here and push as much as I can and hopefully get the jersey."

Scott joined up with his new team mates this morning and took his first session with Chris Mackenzie. As well as being the current first choice with Town Mackenzie is the goalkeeping coach and Scott was impressed with the training: "I got a very good feel for the club from training, better than what I've been used to.

"We only had a little bit of time to work with each other this morning but I was very impressed with Chris's training.

"His training is short and sharp which is really what you need and I'm looking forward to the rest of the three months."

Town is a club that Scott has only played against twice, in the two games against Bristol Rovers last season: "I know a little bit about the club from playing against Shrewbury last year for Bristol Rovers.

"I don't really know much about the town but I'm sure I'll get to know it over the coming months.

"I know a bit about Ryan Esson from being in Scotland so it's good to have a voice like your own."

The move is initially for three months loan but Scott hasn't come here just to sit on the bench. He wants to push for the number spot and hopefully impress for a longer contract: "That's the whole aim of the move but we'll take it as it comes.

"I'll be working my hardest to really impress at Shrewsbury."

Scott was based in Bristol until the weekend but luckily he's moved back to the Midlands over the weekend: "It's worked out quite well as I've moved back to Leicestershire at the weekend.

"It's only just over an hours travel so not too bad."
