Town manager Gary Peters has continued his squad building with Michael Symes signing on a new two and a half year contract.
The young striker has been a big hit since joining initially on loan from Bradford City and then on a contract until the end of this season. He's had his injury problems but Town's medical staff have worked hard with Symesy and this has paid off with 12 goals in 20 games.
Speaking to ShrewsWeb this morning Town manager Gary Peters was happy to have got Symesy to sign a long term contract: "We've signed Symesy on a new two and a half year contract.
"He had his injury problems over the last two years while he was at Bradford City, it was slightly different than a normal injury as he had a hernia injury that went a bit wrong and had several operations to get it right.
"He missed some football but now he's back playing regularly he's thriving on it.
"He's got 12 goals in 20 games and if he carries on scoring at that rate we've got over 20 games left to play this season and he could easily end up with 20 goals plus.
"When you're 23 years of age and your 6'3" with a good touch, good feel, good skills and are a clinical finisher then who knows what he could be."
So far this season Michael Symes has showed what he is capable of and with Peters having a history of developing young players he could have unearthed another gem: "I had a young lad at Preston who was only 5'10" who I signed from Man United as a kid and in the end we got £5 million for John Macken and he probably hasn't got all of what Michael Symes has got.
"We've got to hope that Symesy carries on scoring at the rate he has been and if he does who knows what sort of player we may have."
Peters has been busy getting Town's promising youngsters on long contracts, Michael Symes and Kelvin Langmead are sorted but Peters is still waiting for the transfer window to close before sitting down with Dave Edwards: "With Dave we've made the decision to wait until after the transfer window to sign him and Dave knows Kelvin and Symesy aren't in front of him.
"There has been speculation in the paper and I feel it's fairer to Dave to wait until the end of January.
"Dave knows the reason we're not sorting out a contract before the window closes and is happy with this."
