ShrewsWeb sat down with Marc early last week to talk about his new challenge and we started by asking what had brought him to the club: "I heard about the managers interest in me while I was still at Oldham, I came down to have a look at the facilities.

"The direction the club is heading in and the Chairman's vision was explained to me and I liked what I saw and have decided to join on a two and a half year deal which I'm very happy with."

Having spent the whole of his career at Boundary Park, other than a loan spell at Carlisle, it was a tough decision to move on but Marc was looking forward to a new challenge: "It was tough to leave Oldham in the end as I'd been there for five years since I was seventeen years old.

"I've done my time as an apprentice, played my games, went out on loan, played in League 1 but now I've got a new challenge.

"I think I'm well equipped to play in League 2 but I've come here to help Shrewsbury to get promotion."

When we spoke to Marc he was still to make his Town debut due to the weather, FA Cup and being cup-tied. The lack of games hadn't been a hindrance as it had allowed Marc that little extra time to get to know the club on the training field: "When I knew I was leaving Oldham I didn't want to play in the last game as I feared I could get injured and that would scupper the move.

"When I got here I was looking forward to getting straight into the games but the weather and the flooding put pay to that has put my debut back.

"I've been training hard with the lads and getting to know them so if anything the postponements have helped me to settle in and get to know the lads a lot better.

"Football is football but there are a lot of different ideas here from the coaching staff which I've been impressed with.

"The manager brings lots of different ideas to the table and that makes for some nice bright training sessions.

"I'm dying to play in my first game but I'll have to wait and see who the manager picks."

One familiar face at the club is Danny Hall who came through the youth ranks at Oldham with Marc. Having a good friend already here has helped Marc to settle in and helped him to make his mind up on the move to Town: "Danny was with me at Oldham from the time I first got there, I used to room with him on first team away games.

"I know him very well and he's got a place in Shrewsbury that I've stayed at and he's been filling me in about everything."

This season is about Marc settling into things at Gay Meadow but next season he is looking forward to the move to the New Meadow. The new 10,000 all seater stadium opens next season and Marc is hoping that a good League push could see Town playing there in a higher division: "There's great opportunities here with the new stadium opening next season.

"It looks fantastic and shows the Chairman's vision is brilliant, the manager is doing well and everyone is behind him and there are great set of lads here.

"There's nothing stopping us getting up the league and pushing for promotion.

"We are moving out of this old stadium but it has a lot of character and history and it's great to be involved in a historic season such as this.

"If I get the chance I'll give 100% , I've shown I can play in League 1 and I don't want to be playing in this league. I think we can easily push on and take the club further and have young, hungry players to go forward with."
