Chris began his career at Preston North End but before he had played a first team game for the club, went on loan to Conference club Tamworth. Between 8th January and 15th February 2005 he played five league games and one cup game. He returned to Preston to make his league debut, as a substitute in the 18th February 2005 Championship match against Ipswich Town.
In September 2006 Chris came on loan to us for one month, providing cover for Chris MacKenzie. Neal appeared on the bench for six league matches and played the full 90 minutes of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy match against Hereford United.
As part of a third loan out from Preston, Neal sat on the bench for Morecambe in their Conference National Play-off Final at Wembley.
On 2nd July 2009 Neal made a permanent move from Preston, rejoining us for a nominal fee. His performances were good but he has been a little unlucky with injuries, giving David Button the opportunity to shine between the sticks.
