Greenhous Extend Sponsorship

Posted on: Tue 22 Jun 2010

Greenhous, Shropshire's largest new and used car and commercial dealer network, has announced that it has extended its long sponsorship of Shrewsbury Town Football Club, and launched a public vote to rename the ground.

From next season, in a three year deal, the company will sponsor the club's ground, as well as continuing its sponsorship of the players' home and away shirts. And fans have been challenged by Greenhous to help rename the ground in an online vote on the company's website (www.greenhous.co.uk). Votes can also be cast by post and by phone.

Since the 9875 capacity ground was completed for the beginning of the 2007-08 season, it has been called variously the Oteley Road Stadium and the New Meadow, neither of which have ever completely replaced the universally accepted and loved Gay Meadow as the name for the club's home ground. Greenhous and Shrewsbury Town have invited supporters to participate in an online vote to decide whether the site should be rechristened the Greenhous Stadium, Park, Colosseum, Arena or Meadow. One voter will be picked at random to conduct the official naming ceremony at the first home game of the season in August, and will win VIP match tickets to the club's first home game of the season.

"The Shrews attract the biggest regular crowd to home games of any club or event in the county, and many of our customers and staff are season ticket holders," said Dave Sullivan, director general manager of Greenhous Shropshire. "We're passionate about the future of professional football in Shropshire. And we're equally passionate about getting kids involved in playing football. That's why over the last decade, we've sponsored all five of the county competitions for girls in the Shropshire Schools County Football Association, together with the Federation Centre for Primary Schools, to encourage grass roots participation. We'd love to see some of the children who come through the schools programme playing on the Greenhous sponsored ground at Shrewsbury Town one day.

"We really want to get as many fans and customers involved with our sponsorship as possible, so at the start of next season, we'll be announcing a series of new initiatives to give as many people as possible the opportunity to participate."

"Shrewsbury Town is extremely fortunate to have such a loyal, stable and local sponsor as Greenhous, and we're delighted to extend our work with the company," said Ian Bebbington, operations and commercial manager at STFC.
