Ian Sharps

Posted on: Mon 06 Sep 2010

Following the 4th winning clean sheet in eight games against Rotherham, ShrewsWeb grabbed a quick word with Captain Ian Sharps.

How did the game go from your point of view?
We were probably better first half and they were better second half, but I think we have many strings to our bow, and we defended well in the second half. They had a lot of long range shots, the keeper has done well for us but we've dug in to grind out a result. You're going to get those games over the course of the season and it's good to see the clout the lads have, good to see the will to win.

Was it important to win against your old club?
It's important to get a clean sheet against anyone; I don't want to open up some, me against my old side or anything. So it's just good to get a win.

It was a good win to start a difficult sequence of matches, but it must be a pleasing way to start?
Yes, onwards and upwards, we've got Gillingham now, once we have recovered from the weekend. It's a hard place to go, so it's somewhere we have got to go and dig in again, keep the ball down, keep the ball a bit better and hopefully we can play a bit more football down there, and take a bit of pressure off the back lads.

Having been managed by both managers, how do they compare?
I think you could say that one is more of a shouter and the other is more of a quiet man. They both have their own ways, neither is right or wrong.

What are Graham Turners particular strengths?
He's got a presence, if he says something, the lads listen. We do a lot of talking; it's the way he does things.

Can you comment on the lads bringing in Frank Sinatra records, and how it's improving things?
I think it's a lie; it's the coaching staff putting it on after the game. We put on the music before the game, and for some reason they have decided to take over after the game.

So what do the lads put on before the game?
It's nothing to do with me sorry; it's Heartless Crew, who I had never actually heard of before. Some sort of U.K. Hip hop thing and I don't really know the words.
