Following on from previous meetings, supporters of Shrewsbury Town are being asked to formulate their views and ideas on facilities at the New Meadow, in particular a supporters bar, before the year end.

An open meeting for all fans has been called by the Official Supporters Club and will be held on Monday 13th December at the Gay Meadow in the Sponsors Lounge at 8pm. The fans will discuss and formulate a proposal to present to the club ahead of the stadium construction, which is scheduled to start in January.

Alan Follmer (Chairman) for the OSC said "The club have given us an indication of the likely capacity of the planned facility during recent meetings of the Supporters Umbrella Group. Although there will be bars in the concourses of the stadium, it is felt by many that the capacity of the proposed supporters bar will not be big enough to cope with the expected demand on match days.

The existing facility at the Gay Meadow cannot cope with the number of supporters who would currently like to use it, and the move to the New Meadow should provide the club with a major opportunity to increase revenue. We feel that they are missing out on this and they could also lose trade to other establishments in the area. There will be a function room with a greater capacity for larger events but this may not be available on match days.

We are asking supporters to think about how they would use such a bar, on match days and/or during the week, or if they would join the proposed pool, darts and domino teams etc.

We also need to know if the proposed facility does have a limited capacity, how the supporters want this to be managed - should entry be restricted to members of supporters groups, season ticket holders etc. We will be gathering information from other clubs to establish how they run and manage their supporters/social clubs, in terms of capacity, events, security, restrictions etc.

Supporters have already started to pass on information, and some have suggested building a stand-alone facility on site. We have started to explore the feasibility of this idea. It could involve major fundraising, or a tie in with an external body."
