Welsh U21 manager Brian Flynn will be at the youth game on Saturday to run the rule over some of town's youngsters.

Flynn and Town head of youth Nigel Vaughan have a good relationship that they have built up over the years and Flynn has been a regular visitor to the club over the years.

Vaughan has a history of recommending his young Welsh players and this has brought a lot of international success to the club. He's spoken to Flynn about some of the young lads coming through at Town and he will be at Town's game with Burnley on Saturday: "I spoke to Brian Flynn the other week and he lives near to Burnley where we are playing on Saturday.

"I've put across a couple of names from our squad for him to take a look at and he's going to come across and take a look for the Welsh U17's.

"On Saturday we are going to play Wayne Farmer, Will Richards and Gareth Partridge so he can take a look, there are a couple of other lads who I can hopefully take up as well.

"He's looking for players for next seasons U17s side and it will be a good guideline to how good these lads are because they will be going up against players from Premiership and Championship sides."

The most recent Welsh success for the club has been in the inclusuion of Steve Davey in the U17s'. Davey has continued to be involved with the Welsh squad and Vaughan has high hopes for the promising midfielder: "To be fair to Steve he was in and around the Welsh Schoolboy's before Swansea let him go so when we picked him up Brian Flynn was already aware of him.

"Brian Flynn phoned me early in the season and said he wanted Steve to go down to join the training squad. He went down and did well and he's played about 5 times for Wales and has played ever so well.

"Will that get him a contract at Shrewsbury Town? I don't think it will, what will get him one is if continues to do well week in week out for us.

"He has to continue to develop and get stronger, fitter and produce a little bit more than he has done in the last two games when the manager has watched him.

"Playing for Wales is a bonus for them and representing their country also represents Shrewsbury Town.

"The important thing for any player is to get a contract and Steve needs to step it up that little bit and I know he can do that as he is a very talented lad."
