Town's youth side started the season at home to Macclesfield Town and finished with a 1-0 win over Macclesfield Town.
It looked like it might be an easy game for Town who started the game really well passing the ball round and were on top of proceedings.
That early dominance paid off when Kane Cork combined well with Ben Evans to create a great opening for Kane who finished well.
Town didn't capitalise on their pressure and take their chances when on top and this allowed Macclesfield to get a foothold back into the game.
In the end though Town dug in well and came away with a confidence boosting win to start the season with.
After the game Head of Youth Dave Hughes was happy with most of what he had seen over the 90 minutes: "It was a good way to start for the lads and we played some good stuff in the first half, passed it well and moved it well and our movement at times off the ball was very good.
"For me we could have been a couple more ahead at half-time than just 1-0 as we created some good opportunities but then poor decision making in the final third maybe cost us.
"Kane Cork scored a superb curling goal after a good interchange with Ben Evans.
"After the game we said to the lads that this is a base and there were some really pleasing point but we have to keep improving on some aspects of our play.
"We didn't kill the game off, we weren't ruthless enough in our closing down at times and you had to feel for Macclesfield as the maybe should have had a penalty and that's all part of the lads learning process.
"The plus points were the way we moved the ball in the first half, some of the football was excellent, some of the movement was excellent, one, two, three touch and creating opportunities from it and caused Macclesfield a lot of problems."
