Goal: Broadway (P)
Although a good exercise for both sides the conditions played a noticeable part. With certain areas still frozen on another day this would have been postponed.
We played forty minutes in the first half and passed the ball really well with good movement and link play through central and wide areas creating good opportunities which we must work the goalkeeper more often and convert chances.
We agreed to play 35 minutes in the second half due to the conditions and again we moved the ball well at times again looking likely to score first. Unfortunately a long range effort left Connor Waring (Liverpool trialist) stretching for a ball that he was unable to keep out and this put Newtown 1 up.
Our response was positive and Cameron Broadway chased down a through ball into the penalty area where he was brought down for a penalty he confidently fired into the roof of the net to make it one each.
Both teams had equal share of possession and tried to push for a winning goal, Newtown were given a chance which they took but it was from our lack of concentration from a long throw in which they scored from.
The ball bounced into our box over our defenders which we never dealt with and the Newtown striker finished unchallenged to make it 2-1 which on overall reflection was tough on our boys.
Overall we were pleased by the way the boys applied themselves and tried to play but even though a friendly game the boys must begin to understand the roles and responsibilities of the game to avoid getting punished.
