Micky Mellon pulled off a major coup when he signed the versatile attacker after nearly a decade at Port Vale.
Dodds started his career at Leicester City, but failed to make an appearance for the club as he was sent out on loan to Northwich Victoria, Rochdale and Lincoln City.
Having been released by Leicester in the summer of 2008 he moved onto Port Vale, where he would remain for the next 8 seasons.
Originally from Sheffield, he can play as a winger, central midfielder, number 10, or as an out and out striker.
He scored over 50 in nearly 300 league games for the Valiants, winning promotion to League One in 2013.
Dodds will be well known to Town fans having scored against Shrewsbury both home and away last season.
Having signed a two year deal this summer, he will be hoping he can make a similar impression this season.
