Marcus Braddock looks ahead to the weekend visit of Doncaster Rovers

The weekend brings Shrewsbury Town back to Montgomery Waters Meadow to face Doncaster Rovers in Skybet League One. Sitting five places above us in 11th place. Rovers have had the better form in the lead-up to the game with five wins and three defeats in their last ten games. Last weekend, Rovers surrendered an early lead with Cameron John scoring two own goals in a game that also saw ex-Town striker Fejiri Okenabihrie sent off in the first half.

Clean Sheets

Five at home and five away in 31 league games. Eight of their clean sheets ended in wins for Rovers. Three of Doncaster's winning clean sheets have come from away games.

Doncaster Away Stats

40% of Doncaster away goals have been scored in the final fifteen minutes and injury time.

They've scored an average of 1.5 goals per away game and concede an average of 1.

Rovers have only conceded one goal in the first half an hour of away games this season.

They've also failed to score in just over 30% of their away games.

Referee

Andy Woolmer from Northamptonshire. Games this season: 27. Yellow cards: 72. Red cards: 3.

Team News

Rovers have just welcomed defender Alex Baptiste back from injury after several months on the sidelines. Fejiri Okenabihrie is suspended.

Brad Walker is back in training, Shaun Whalley is a possibility but Ollie Norburn will be out for some time yet.

Summary

This is the first of two home games in less than a week and without wanting to add to the pressure, we really need a win to put us back on the right track. Doncaster are obviously going to make it very difficult for us as they eye up a play-off bid but I'm hopeful that after a full week without a game, we've recharged our batteries and are feeling a bit fresher.

COYB!!!

There will be a minutes silence before the game to honour Harry Gregg who played for Doncaster and managed Shrewsbury Town.

Shrewsbury Town were able to find a return to winning ways as Salop ran out 1-0 winners over Doncaster Rovers.

Dave Edwards popped up with a back-post header to ensure all three points remained at the Montgomery Waters Meadow.

First-half

The first 10 minutes of Town’s clash with Doncaster Rovers got underway with Salop having positive spells in the Donny half. Callum Lang and Daniel Udoh’s pace continually troubled the away side’s back line as Town were looking for a way through.

Josh Vela’s first 20 minutes on Shrewsbury Town grass began in positive form. The midfielder displayed an eye for a pass and good awareness defensively to break up forward momentum from the away side.

The away side did manage to have a shot at goal at the mid-way stage of the first-half. Ben Sheaf found himself in the box with a yard of space but the midfielder was unable to find the target and blazed the ball over the bar.

Aaron Pierre was a continual presence in the Town backline having cleared a number of lofted balls launched into the Town half. The Shrews defence competed well with the Doncaster front-line and blocked out most offensive moves.

The half came to an end with the two teams all square after a competitive first 45 minutes.

Second-half:

With just four minutes of the second period gone, Max O’Leary’s concentration was tested. Town’s keeper had to dive far into the top corner of his goal to prevent Ben Whiteman from breaking the deadlock in impressive fashion.

Devante Cole almost went a step further for Darren Moore’s team with a powerful effort. The forward picked up the ball just inside the box and was able to let off a shot. Cole was able to beat O’Leary but was unable to beat the post as his effort cannoned back out off the woodwork.

Salop had their own chance to take the lead on the hour mark. Conor McAleny dribbled well down the right flank to cross the ball into Udoh. Despite an inch-perfect low cross, Udoh was unable to find a strong connection with the ball and the Donny defence cleared well.

The next clear-cut chance for Town ended up being the breakthrough goal. David Edwards managed to head home from close range after a deflected shot in the 77th minute.

O’Leary was forced into another great save in the latter stages of the game. The Donny forward converged on Town's goal quickly but O’Leary kept himself big and launched himself towards the ball to make the block.

The game came to an end with Town securing a deserved three points against Darren Moore's Doncaster.
