Steve Cotterill previews Town's clash with Hull City

The Manager – Grant McCann

Grant McCann was appointed as Head Coach of Hull City on 21 June 2019 on a one-year rolling contract and made the Tigers his third managed club after Peterborough United and Doncaster Rovers.

During his playing career, the Northern Ireland international began his career with West Ham and had loan spells at Livingston and Notts County before moving to Cheltenham Town.

So far during his managerial career, McCann has achieved a win percentage of 40.6%.

Goalkeeper – Matt Ingram

Matt Ingram joined Hull City from Queens Park Rangers in June 2019, signing an initial three-year deal at the KCOM Stadium. Ingram has previously represented: Wycombe Wanderers, Lewes, Hayes & Yeading United, Oxford City, Queens Park Rangers, Northampton Town.

So far this season, Hull City have kept eight clean sheets as the fight for an automatic promotion spot with Ingram in-between the sticks.

Defender – Jacob Greaves

Having signed for the Club as an eight-year-old, young defender Jacob Greaves progressed through the Academy ranks to sign his first professional deal in April 2019.

Son of former Tigers defender Mark, the centre-back put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal with a Club option for a further year having skippered the U18s in 2018/19.

Midfielder – George Honeyman

Hull City completed the signing of George Honeyman on a three-year deal in August 2019. The midfielder joined the Tigers from boyhood club Sunderland, first signing for the Black Cats' Academy set-up at the age of ten.

Following his switch to the Tigers, Honeyman finished the 2019/20 campaign with one goal in 44 appearances in all competitions. However, this season, the midfielder has netted two times for his team in the league. Hull's number 10 has also provided seven assists for his team so far during this campaign and is a danger man in the Tigers' engine room.

Forward – Mallik Wilks

A forward with exceptional pace, trickery and power, Mallik Wilks became the latest addition to Grant McCann's squad when arriving from Barnsley on loan in January 2020.

Having progressed through the youth system at Leeds United, Wilks furthered his footballing education with loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Grimsby Town in 2017/18. Wilks has hit a purple patch this season and is the Tigers' top league goal-scorer with six goals to his name. The forward has also assisted his teammates on two occasions on the front line.

Match report: Hull City 0 Shrewsbury Town 1

Salop earn all three points against Hull City away from home.

Shrewsbury Town’s afternoon in Hull ended with Salop securing all three points with a 1-0 win over Sky Bet League One leaders Hull City.

A first half goal from Charlie Daniels was the difference between the two sides as his chip secured the win.

An even first 15 minutes started with the two teams looking to progress into danger areas at every given opportunity. That forward positive play allowed Salop an early chance at goal. Shaun Whalley broke well down the right flank and managed to pick out Ollie Norburn on the edge of the box but the midfielder’s shot was pushed just wide of the post.

As the half progressed, Salop grew further into the game and made the pressure tell in the 28^th minute. A smart forward move saw Dan Udoh play Charlie Daniels in on goal and the left-back smartly dinked the ball over the on-rushing Matt Ingram to give Town the lead.

It was the Shrews who looked the stronger team despite the difference in league position. Steve Cotterill would have been happy with his team as the Shrews went into the break with the advantage.

Honeyman had a real chance to give the home side an equaliser late on in the tie. The midfielder got on the end of a perfectly weighted cross but his volley flew over Matija Sarkic’s bar.

However, resolute and organised defending saw the Shrews over the line. Town’s dominating performance during the first half and early stages of the second were rewarded with Salop securing all three points over the league leaders.
