Shrewsbury Town fell to a 2-0 defeat at Stevenage.
Second-half goals from Aaron Pressley and Jamie Reid won it for the hosts at The Lamex Stadium.
Town next host Burton Albion at the Croud Meadow on Tuesday night where we’ll be looking to win our second home game in a row following our opening-day win over Cheltenham.
Team news:
Head coach Matt Taylor named an unchanged side from the one that secured an opening-day victory over Cheltenham.
Setting up in a 3-5-2 formation, Ryan Bowman and Dan Udoh led the line with new signings Joe Anderson, Morgan Feeney, Taylor Perry and Nohan Kenneh all starting their third successive games.
Elliott Bennett returned to the squad following his appendix surgery last week while club captain Chey Dunkley was also fit enough to make the bench following an Achilles injury.
Stevenage lined up in a 3-4-1-2 system with Jordan Roberts operating just behind Josh March and Aaron Pressley.
Match Report
Clear-cut chances proved few and far between in the opening 20 minutes - but the hosts did create two opportunities to break the deadlock.
First, a miss-kick from Marko Marosi saw the ball fall for March in the box. He then took a touch before firing over just eight yards from goal.
A few minutes later, Dan Butler then let fly with a dangerous shot from outside the box that flew inches past the post.
Gradually, Town began to grow in stature. And we came close to opening the scoring in spectacular fashion.
Taylor Perry picked up the ball around 30 yards out with their appearing to be little on.
But the midfielder then hit a rocket towards the top corner which goalkeeper Krisztian Hegyi brilliantly tipped onto the bar.
Following what had been a stop-start half, the hosts then threatened again just before the break, when Carl Piergianni saw a header from a corner well saved by Marko Marosi.
At the start of the second half, Piergianni had yet another chance come his way when he got on the end of Jake Forster-Caskey’s cross, only to hit the bar.
Town did grow into the half though as a spell of possession saw Perry put in an inviting cross which Ryan Bowman couldn’t get on the end of.
However, just moments later, Stevenage took the lead.
Luther James-Wildin ventured down the line before finding Aaron Pressley inside the box who slotted it home.
A slow half an hour followed with neither side having a great deal to talk about until The Boro doubled their lead in the 85th minute.
Forster-Caskey whipped in an inviting corner for the home side which was met by Alex MacDonald, whose flick-on header was turned in by substitute Jamie Reid.
Three minutes later, Jordan Roberts' drilled effort was cleared off the line brilliantly by Morgan Feeney to deny Stevenage their third.
Salop couldn't muster up another chance of their own and the game concluded in the host's victory.
