The U18s made the long trip North to take on Carlisle United in the EFL Alliance League.
Results-wise Town's U18s haven't had the best of starts to the season but at Academy level, the result isn't the bee all and end-all.
The coaches are looking firstly for performances over the 90 minutes and the performance levels have been high so far.
It was the same against at Carlisle but the youngsters made a few mistakes that gave the home side their chances, while at the other end Town weren't clinical with their chances.
ShrewsWeb caught up with Academy Manager David Longwell to get his thoughts on the game.
"It was very similar to the week before when we played Tranmere", said David.
"We started ok and created some good chances but we started to make silly mistakes and give the ball away.
"You are going to get that with young players, but we are making bad errors and giving away goals which are costing us results.
"It was another game where we should never have lost when you look at the number of chances, corners and territory we had.
"That doesn't guarantee you results and there are two simple points, stop making silly mistakes and make sure that you are clinical in front of goal."
As always the boys will sit down the coaches and look back at points from the game. It all goes to developing players who can play football and fit into the Shrewsbury Town way.
"The big thing is people can get bogged down with results, we didn't do that badly in the game and there was not much between the teams", said David.
"We are not launching the ball forward, we are trying to play football because it is about the long term development of the players.
"You aim to get players through and if in four years time players have gone through to the first team it is irrelevant what the score was against Carlisle.
"You do want to win games and you do want to try and get those results, but the most important thing is that the boys are learning.
"We work to get them tactically and technically better and that will take a little bit of time to get that to shine through.
"That will be easier with the younger ones in the Academy as we have more time with them, but we with boys at this age it's a wee bit more difficult, but are going to continue to try to do that.
"Eventually we will get performances and get results, as the two of those things together are the important things."
With the long journey back David was keen to use the time to look back at the game and go through some points with the boys.
"I was watching the game back on the journey home on the bus with a couple of the boys", said David.
"It was just to show them a couple of things on the video, not in a negative way but more to let them see it again while it's fresh in the memory.
"I've learnt as I've got older that you've just got to get on with it and go onto the next game.
"We are trying to get them to play the ball into strikers at the moment, there were good moments in the game where they could have done that but didn't so to have the chances to show them that was good.
"It's trying to give them positive criticism if that makes sense, to try and continue to improve.
"People will always jump on results if you lose a game but the most important thing for us is to get these players better technically and tactically, and there is a hell of a lot of work to get them near to first team and being able to step up.
"We could go out each week and just launch the ball back to front and win games but that's not what we want to do as that's not how you develop players."
