Young keeper set to start for England U17s

Young Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Callum Burton is set to start for England under-17s against Finland in the Nordic Tournament this afternoon.

Burton was an unused substitute when England kicked off the tournament with a 2-0 win over hosts Faroe Ialands yesterday thanks to second half goals from Middlesbrough's Bradley Fewster and Aston Villa's Danny O'Brien.

Newcastle United's Freddie Woodman completed the 90 minutes between the posts but Burton is expected to get the nod from coach Kenny Swain to start against Finland in Gundadalus (3pm).

Burton, a Shropshire lad from Newport, is delighted to be part of the England under-17 squad.

He won his first international cap when he played for the under-16s in a 1-0 victory over Spain in Madrid in February.

Burton recently started a two-year scholarship at the Greenhous Meadow and is highly regarded by the club.

His involvement with England under-17s is more good exposure for the club following last week's call ups of Shrewsbury strikers Tom Bradshaw and Ryan Doble to the Wales under-21 squad.
