Goals from Gornell (2) and Wright give Town pre-season win

Shrewsbury completed their public pre-season programme with an entertaining 3-2 win at Worcester City's St George's Lane.

Terry Gornell scored twice and Mark Wright was also on target as Town were pushed all the way by their Blue Square Premier League hosts.

Shrewsbury made a flying start with Gornell firing them in front inside the opening five minutes.

The ex-Accrington striker burst into the box and his low shot crept beneath former Town goalkeeper Glyn Thompson.

The advantage was soon cancelled out when Connor Goldson bundled over Mike Symons and Danny Glover hammered the penalty to the top corner of the net beyond the despairing reach of his ex-Port Vale team mate Joe Anyon.

Worcester then took the lead from another penalty on 20 minutes when Tom Thorley tumbled with Matt Richards and Connor Goldson in close proximity, this time Thorley converting the spot kick.

Town were always lively going forward and were immediately back on terms and in some style as Mark Wright, falling backwards, acrobatically volleyed a teasing Paul Parry cross to the corner of the net to make it 2-2 at the break.

Chris Weale replaced Anyon between the posts at the break and immediately needed to be alert to keep out a well struck drive from Charlie Reece.

Weale then saved from Greg Mills before Shrewsbury were back on the front foot. Wright's shot from a Gornell cross was well kept out by Thompson before the winning goal arrived in the 72nd minute.

A flowing move saw Marvin Morgan feed Wright and his low cross from the left was tapped home by the impressive Gornell.
