August 4th Training Ground,
We preformed to a decent standard throughout the game, controlled the game with possession of the ball and looked a threat in the final third; defensively we were poor due to lack of discipline and poor technique in defending.
1st half - We had many opportunities to score but lacked the cutting edge to finish the chances that we had created, our set plays had quality delivery but our attacking of the ball lacked any purpose. Newport had a couple of chances, this was down to poor defending or decision making on the ball, the lads will need to cut out these mistakes and ensure they can concentrate for 90mins against teams. With us looking to play out from the back we have asked the scholars to look to improve their own individual movement and have the ability to receive under pressure.
2nd half - Was a similar situation; we made the break through 10mins into the 2nd half, with good movement from K. Anderson down the channel, his cross found Sam Westray in the box for a good finish. The goals continued to flow during the 2nd half due to some good football from the scholars, where by Kaiman Anderson (2), Sam Molyneux & Javia Roberts got onto the score sheet.
Overall we have been pleased with the performances and how we have played the game during pre season, we have to look to improve the concentration of the players for 90mins and stop the silly mistakes. Our season begins with a trip to Rochdale on Sat Aug 11th, where we hope the lads play with the quality they have.
