Wright backs Parry to shine

21 August 2012

Wrighty enjoying having Parry as part of the team

Winger Mark Wright is backing his fellow wideman Paul Parry to once again shine when he faces his former Preston North End team mates at the Greenhous Meadow tonight.

Parry enjoyed an impressive league debut for Shrewsbury Town in Saturday's slender 1-0 opening day defeat at Sheffield United.

Now Wright is looking for more of the same from the former Wales international as Town get ready to take on Preston.

Parry, who turned 32 on Sunday, spent three seasons at Deepdale until moving to Shrewsbury in the summer.

"He was good, he had a lot of the ball out wide and he looked very dangerous," was Wright's take on Parry's lively display at Bramall Lane. "You can see he's got the quality and if we can both start perfoming like that we'll cause problems."

Wright admitted it was frustrating that Town's bright attacking play had gone unrewarded at both Leeds United in the Capital One Cup and then again at Sheffield United on the opening two Saturdays of the season.

But the former MK Dons and Bristol Rovers man believes it's only a matter of time before the goals start to flow for Shrewsbury again.

"We've created a lot of chances in both games but it just doesn't seem to be dropping in the right place," said Wright.

"We're getting into the right positions and hopefully as soon as the first one goes in, more will start going in."

Wright is now excited about Town taking their League One bow in front of their own supporters under the Meadow floodlights against Preston.

He added: "We're at home, we should have a good crowd here and we've got to perform. Hopefully we can get the three points."
