COE At Keele Tournament

30 July 2012

Town's youngster travelled to Keele and gave a good account

We’ve had our under 15s for this coming season over at Keele this week to compete in the cup tournament. We have felt this to be a benefit to the boys as they begin their pre-season work and learn a little about competition football as opposed to weekly games.
The boys began fairly well with some convincing wins in the first couple of days against Elite development squads from around the country, a team from the Isle of Man and a Stoke City development squad. With a 2-0 defeat against an organised team from Canada the boys still managed to qualify for a semi- final match against a strong physical team from Norway.
Unfortunately we suffered a heavy 7-3 defeat which obviously upset the players, however we have to remind the boys that they are still largely in a developing stage of their footballing careers and yes defeat in any game or practice should hurt but they need to focus on what they have done well and what they have not done so well throughout the week.
Overall as coaches we will take positives from this weeks experience as we continue to learn about the players we have and plan to improve them on a weekly basis but they must take in the information given to them to avoid making errors in the future.
Finally myself and Steve Reece would like to thank the boys for their discipline and attitude throughout the week with us and a special mention for the parents who supported us all week especially on Thursday when the mini-bus broke down and collectively got the boys back home safely as me and Steve went back in the recovery truck!
