Good display from Town but unable to convert chance
Shrewsbury Town were held to a goalless draw at Evesham United in their opening pre-season friendly.
Town enjoyed plenty of possession but a breakthrough eluded them with a Joe Jacobson free kick against the top of the bar the closest they came.
Young defender Connor Goldson was handed the captain's armband as he led out a Town side in bright sunshine featuring six of the club's summer signings in the starting XI.
Joe Anyon, Darren Jones, Asa Hall, Luke Summerfield, Paul Parry and Ryan Doble were all in the side which ran out at Evesham's new Spiers & Hartwell Jubilee Stadium.
Shrewsbury controlled the first half for long stages. They moved the ball well but chances were hard to come by.
Hall was prominent in midfield and his clever pass over the top released Marvin Morgan who cut inside well but his low shot lacked the power to seriously worry Evesham goalkeeper Nick Thomas.
Morgan had an even better chance just before the break when he was picked out by a searching cross from left back Joe Jacobson but he nodded over from eight yards.
Town made five changes at half time with Rob Purdie, Jon Taylor, Aaron Wildig, Tom Bradshaw and Terry Gornell introduced.
Bradshaw immediately looked lively and Town upped the tempo as they chased a breakthrough.
Gornell sliced a shot wide of the nar post before left back Joe Jacobson's 25 yard free kick clipped the top of the bar just past the hour mark as Town went even closer.
Jacobson had an anxious moment at the other end shortly afterwards when his poor backpass was latched on to by Simeon Tulloch who fired wide with only Anyon to beat.
Graham Turner made a sixth change 15 minutes from time with first year pro Ryan Woods replacing Hall as Town continued to push for their first goal of pre-season.
Elliot Turner, another of the emerging youngsters, was also given a late run out.
Woods fired a 25 yarder straight at the keeper before Gornell played through Bradshaw late on but the Welsh under-21 international was unable to get a shot away as a game watched by 265 spectators remained goalless.
