Reserves beaten by Vale

Vale leave the GM with all 3 points

Shrewsbury Town reserves were beaten 2-1 by a strong Port Vale side under the Greenhous Meadow lights in tonight's Central League clash.

First team coach Mike Jackson selected a side featuring plenty of the younger members of the first team squad while scholars Sam Westray and Dominic Smith were also handed another chance to impress in the back four.

Vale included former Shrewsbury midfielder Sean McAllister in a side packed with first team experience.

Vale made a bright start and went ahead in the 11th minute when an unmarked Rob Taylor headed home Sam Morsy's corner.

But Shrewsbury were soon level as Ryan Doble found strike partner Tom Bradshaw who confidently drilled in a well struck shot to the bottom corner of the net from just inside the penalty area.

Vale regained the lead just before the break as Louis Dodds raced away from teenage defender Smith before firing confidently past Joe Anyon.

And the visitors almost moved further clear on the stroke of half time when Morsy's free kick from just outside the box struck the bar.

Vale continued to carry a greater threat in the second half and Taylor was not far away with a dipping 25 yarder which just cleared the bar.

Then Ryan Lloyd smashed a shot on the turn narrowly over the bar as Shrewsbury struggled to get to grips with a strong Vale side.

Anyon, facing one of his former clubs, also had to be alert to keep out a Taylor shot.

Young Shrewsbury full back Westray tested keeper Ryan Boot for the first time in the second half 10 minutes from time when the Vale No 1 pulled off an unconvincing stop.

Asa Hall then dragged a shot from just outside the box off target as Vale secured maximum points.
