Bennett ready for Oldham test

Defender expecting a tough test at Oldham

Julian Bennett, the defender on loan from Sheffield Wednesday, firmly believes Shrewsbury Town are heading in the right direction as they prepare for Saturday's trip to Oldham Athletic.

Bennett, 27, has been encouraged with Town's recent displays and he's now looking for more of the same at Boundary Park against the Latics.

"I've played there a few times," said Bennett. "Each game we play is going to be difficult.

"Our home form has been good and in our last away game at Leyton Orient we were unlucky to concede a late goal.

"It's just finishing off games, putting in the finishing touches, it's about crossing the t's and dotting the i's as they say.

"There's a lot of games to be played, a lot of points to be gained, and if we can keep improving in every game, look at the positives and try and correct what we haven't been doing right then we'll be going in the right direction."

Bennett felt Town were highly unfortunate not to claim maximum points against MK Dons on Tuesday night but felt there were plenty of positives to emerge, notably the fine goal of winger Mark Wright, a team mate of his earlier in the career.

"Wrighty's a quality player," he said. "I played with him at Walsall when I was younger and it was fantastic for him to score especially against one of his old clubs.

"There's a good squad here and when players come in for each other we know they can do the job. That's definitely what we need.

"Wrighty has been doing very well in training so he's now had the opportunity to come back into the team."
