Defender Comes In On Loan

2 November 2012

Experienced defender comes in from Championship side

Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner has confirmed that the club have agreed to take defender Julian Bennett on loan from Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

The 27 year old Nottingham born left-back started his career with Walsall before moving to Nottingham Forest where he played nearly 100 games in the Championship for the club.  He’s also had a spell on loan at Crystal Palace before moving to Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2011 where he’s made 25 appearances so far.

The loan deal is for an initial month with the paperwork going through in time for Julian to be in contention for the Hereford game, as Sheffield Wednesday have agreed that he can play in the FA Cup, if needed.

Julian Bennett will have squad number 28.

The move was pencilled in to happen last week but it was finally completed just before lunchtime today and manager Graham Turner is pleased to have added some experience to his squad:”“Recently we have brought a number of younger players into the squad but Julian is a more experienced player.

“He’s played numerous games at the higher level and brings good experience to the squad even though he’s only 27 years of age.

“Julian should have come in last week but I’m pleased that he’s finally joined the squad and really look forward to working with him.”
