A win at Oldham in 1979 saw successful season for Town
Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner hopes history will repeat itself at Oldham Athletic this weekend.
The last time he led Town to promotion, the first away victory the following season, in the old second division, came at Oldham's Boundary Park on November 24, 1979.
Of course, that's the very same day of the year he will lead Shrewsbury back to Oldham on Saturday.
Town had opened life in division two in the 1979-80 season with eight defeats in a row on the road until Paul Maguire scored twice to earn a 2-0 victory at Oldham.
Town are still searching for their first away win this season after promotion to League One with Graham now hoping that another November 24 trip to Oldham can see them pick up three points on their travels.
"Things like that do happen," smiled the boss. "I can recall the end to our 34 game unbeaten run at home recently.
"The last one to beat us was a side managed by Alan Knill and 34 games later it was a side managed by Alan Knill that ended our record so co-incidences like that do happen and it would be terrific if it does.
"It's interesting that and the only thing that concerns me is getting the three points. It would be nice if we could do it at Oldham on Saturday."
