Connor doing well during loan at Market Drayton

Shrewsbury Town's young goalkeeper Connor Wearing has been handed the chance to gain more experience by joining Shropshire non-League club Market Drayton Town on a work experience loan.

Wearing, who joined Shrewsbury from Liverpool, has appeared regularly for both the Greenhous Meadow youth and reserve teams this season.

Drayton, who play in the Evo-Stik League Northern Premier First Division (South), contacted Town to see if he would be available to make a temporary switch to Greenfields and Shrewsbury were happy to oblige.

Drayton are managed by Jimmy Mullen, the former Burnley and Walsall boss, with popular former Town striker Andy Cooke his assistant.

"They contacted us so Connor's gone out and played a couple of games and done very well," said Wayne Evans, Shrewsbury Town's head of youth.

"We've luckily got Callum Burton to play the youth team games and it's good for Connor to play against adults so that's good experience for him and it's giving Callum a run of games in the youth team."

"Connor has done very well this season, whether he be playing for us or the reserves. He's performed to a decent standard.

"His loan at Market Drayton is open ended with it being a work experience loan.

"I've spoken to Cookie a couple of times and he's been very happy with his performances."
