Town take on Port Vale with 7pm kick-off

Shrewsbury Town reserves play their first game under the lights this season when they take on Port Vale in the Central League at the Greenhous Meadow tonight (7pm).

First team coach Mike Jackson has selected a side featuring plenty of members of the first team squad while scholars Sam Westray and Dominic Smith are also handed another chance to impress.

The subs will be named closer to kick off after consulting with head of youth Wayne Evans.

"Apart from Asa Hall, the outfield players are all aged 20 and under," said Mike. "I'm just trying to drill into them what's needed.

"Port Vale are doing well in this league and will be confident.

"The last time we played at Oldham they had quite a young side but you can only beat what's in front of you. The bigger test we get then the better it is for the lads."

Former Shrewsbury midfielder Sean McAllister in named in a strong Vale reserve side which also includes the likes of Liam Chilvers, Doug Loft, Chris Shuker, Rob Taylor and Louis Dodds.

SHREWSBURY RESERVES: Joe Anyon; Rob Purdie, Dominic Smith, Connor Goldson, Sam Westray; Aaron Wildig, Asa Hall, Ryan Woods, Elliott Turner; Ryan Doble, Tom Bradshaw.

PORT VALE RESERVES: Ryan Boot, Joe Evans, Liam Chilvers, Doug Price, Doug Loft, Chris Shuker, Sean McAllister, Sam Morsy, Rob Taylor, Ryan Lloyd, Louis Dodds. Subs: Joe Hemmings, Tom Morris, Ollie Marland, Will Whieldon, Luke Beesley.
