Reserves at Oldham today

Reserves travel to Oldham this afternoon

Shrewsbury Town reserves return to Central League action with a trip to Oldham Athletic this afternoon.

Town opened their reserve team season with a 4-0 victory over the Latics at the Greenhous Meadow in August, and the message from manager Graham Turner to the players selected today is there are first team places up for grabs.

"It will be a mixture of young pros, Academy lads and senior pros," said the boss. "People like Joe Anyon will play, Mark Wright, Asa Hall and of the younger ones there's Connor Goldson, Tom Bradshaw, Ryan Doble.

"We're playing on a training ground which disappoints me when you're sending some senior players up there.

"The least they could expect was to get on a good surface and to play in a big stadium, but unfortunately it's at Oldham's training ground.

"The message is there's obviously places up for grabs."

Graham added: "What was disappointing for me in the friendly at Wolves and the last reserve game at home to Burton was that there was nobody who really forced the issue with their performance in the reserves that warranted justification to put them straight in the first team.

"That's what I want to hear from Michael Jackson when he comes back, that so and so played well and so and so deserves consideration for Saturday.

"With things going wrong in the first team you obviously look to see where you can change it."
