Rodgers looks forward to facing Lowe

20 November 2012

Old teammates play against ex other tonight

It will be just like the old days tonight with former Shrewsbury Town striking partners Luke Rodgers and Ryan Lowe sharing a football pitch.

The two ex-Gay Meadow team mates remain close friends and are set to go head to head when Town take on high flying MK Dons at the Greenhous Meadow (7.45pm).

Rodgers made a telling contribution up front as Shrewsbury beat Crewe, another of his former clubs, 1-0 on Saturday and he's now keen to follow it up with three more points tonight.

But MK Dons will provide a stern test having climbed to fourth place in the League One table after beating leaders Tranmere Rovers 1-0 at Prenton Park on Friday night.

Rodgers stressed he was looking forward to meeting up with his pal Lowe with the 34-year-old Liverpudlian joining the Dons earlier this season from Sheffield Wednesday.

"Lowey's a good player and he's my best mate as well," said Rodgers, currently on loan to Town from Portsmouth. "I love playing against him as it's always nice to play against your old team mates and it's always nice to see them as well.

"I'll be looking forward to it and the banter started last week. We were on the phone but take nothing away from it, I'll be taking it seriously and I will want to win the game.

"I'm really pleased to see him playing again for MK Dons. I think his last four years have been his best. He's 34 now but he did really well at Bury, got his move to Sheffield Wednesday and now he's at MK Dons so you've got to respect him for that.

"I still think there's a lot more to come from him at MK Dons."
