Liam joins sport medicine department

Shrewsbury Town have bolstered their sport medicine department by securing the services of a sports scientist.

Liam Mahoney, from Widnes, will be at the Greenhous Meadow three days each week on a work placement.

"Liam has a BA in sports science and is currently completing his Masters in sports science with the focus on nutrition," said Town's first team physio Chris Skitt.

"He contacted the club and we liked what Liam could offer as we are always looking at ways to move forward."

Chris, who will be working closely with the new recruit, added: "Led by myself, Liam will look to develop and implement methods to monitor training loads and the conditions of players.

"This will allow us to periodise the players to peak at every matchday.

"Periodisation is a topical issue in sport and it becomes particularly complex in sports like ours where you are needing players to peak every week and often every three or four days."
