"We have to fight for each other"

30 November 2012

Skipper confident that Town will turn things around

Shrewsbury Town captain Matt Richards insists there's a real sense of togetherness within the Greenhous Meadow dressing room to pull the club away from the wrong end of the League One table.

The midfielder said there was a real united front between the players to pick up improved results on a consistent basis.

"You've just got to stick together and work hard," said Richards. "You have to fight for each other really. There's no point in doom or gloom and getting frustrated.

"We know there's a lot of talent in this team. We just haven't shown it at the right times this season.

"It was promising earlier on but it just hasn't clicked at the moment.

"There's a good team spirit still. There's a great bunch of lads here and we're working hard for each other.

"We're positive we will turn it around."

Richards knows it's vital Town start picking up better results on their travels and admitted he was puzzled why Shrewsbury are still seeking a first away win of the season.

"We can't quite put our finger on it," he said. "We struggled a little bit last year with our away form.

"We've been unfortunate at times this season. We should have got more at Stevenage, Brentford, and in a few other games.

"I'm sure the win will come soon and then I'm sure there will be a few wins in the row. It's just breaking that duck and then we'll be on our way."
