Matt Richards and Paul Parry help open event

Shrewsbury Town captain Matt Richards and the club's former Welsh international Paul Parry proved popular attractions as they kindly started the Alzheimer's Society Memory Walk at Attingham Park.

The one or three mile walks in support of a great cause around the beautiful grounds of the stately home, near Shrewsbury, drew a crowd of between 100 and 150.

They included children, parents, grandparents and lots of dogs on a glorious Sunday morning.

The Attingham Park event was part of a national strategy to increase the awareness of dementia and the issues for sufferers and carers.

Martin James, Shrewsbury Town's community development manager, said: "Matt and Paul proved excellent ambassadors for Shrewsbury Town and enjoyed their morning at Attingham.

"They were pleased to support such a great cause and enjoyed meeting lots of people before having a nice walk in the sunshine."
