Town squad accept Monkmoor challenge

12 October 2012

Darts, dominoes, pool and bar skittles to decide the winners

Shrewsbury Town v The Monkmoor Hotel

A challenge has been thrown down by David Dean, landlord of the Monkmoor Hotel in Shrewsbury, to the players of Shrewsbury Town next week.

It will be a sporting contest of mammoth proportions as the might of The Monkmoor take on the stars of STFC in a head to head challenge of pub sports!

Teams from each side will pit themselves against each other in a fight for a trophy to be presented by Lenny the Lion (aka Ron Millar).

Traditional games of darts, dominoes, pool and bar skittles will form the four events for the teams to battle it out for supremacy.

The Monkmoor team will go into the contest as odds on favourites, but the Shrewsbury boys are always up for a new challenge and hopefully have been training hard on the domino boards and pool tables in their spare time!

The event has been arranged through Martin James, head of community development at the Greenhous Meadow, to support the charitable efforts of landlord David Dean.

"He is looking to provide 100 food hampers for Christmas delivery to elderly people in the Monkmoor area," said Martin. "This is something Dave has done in past years. Dave is a champion of community involvement and regularly provides free dinners for pensioners at his hostelry."

The event takes place on Tuesday, October 16 at 7.15pm at the Monkmoor Hotel on Monkmoor Road, Shrewsbury.

Entry is free so come along and support the lads and the cause.
