GT reveals that Terry goal should have stood

Terry Gornell might still be waiting for his first goal of the season - but Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner has revealed that wait should have come to an end during Tuesday's 4-1 beating of Coventry City.

The Liverpudlian striker cleverly re-directed home a Luke Summerfield shot early in the second half only for his joy to be cut short by the flag of an assistant referee.

But, having since studied the DVD of the game, GT feels Gornell was desperately unfortunate as he was not  in an offside position and that the goal should have stood.

"In any sport confidence is a massive part of it, but in particular for strikers," said the manager. "They need goals to give them that confidence and Marvin got his.

"It was a bit unfortunate for Terry Gornell that he got a goal but it was duly disallowed for offside.

"When you view it, as we have plenty of times, he was clearly on side. It wasn't even close when the ball came to him.

"But he contributed, he worked hard, and if we can keep that same sort of endeavour, intensity about our game then we'll be all right.
